Banking

The Cypriot banking system is very similar to the English system. The Cypriot banking system comprises a number of commercial banks which are regulated by the Central Bank of Cyprus. Apart from Cypriot banks which operate internationally with branches in the UK, many overseas bank have a presence in Cyprus.

Your Cypriot bank account has the same privileges as your UK bank account like cheque books, visa/master card, cash card, overdraft, etc.

Banks are normally open between 8.30am and 12.30pm from Monday to Friday with some opening in the afternoon for tourists.

Currency

The official currency is the Euro (€) which was introduced from the 1 January 2008. Coins issued are €2, €1, 50cent, 20cent, 10cent, 5cent, 2cent and 1cent. Notes are €5, €10, €20, €50, €100, €200 and €500.
